For all the non-local students in Burn Leadership Academy, the Home Sponsors are an integral part of your experience in the program. For the nine months of Burn, your Host Home will be a place of rest and community, and a place to belong, engage with the family and grow together.
It is our expectation that Burn is responsible for all personal expenses including toiletries, entertainment, and clothing. However, meals will be provided by your Host Home, as well as a place to be refreshed, involved with the family, and grow together.
Prayer is a deep foundation in what Burn is. We ought to be people that know God’s voice, character, and attributes. Colossians 4:2 commands us to “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Oh, that we would be people that know God’s voice!
As a student in Burn, you will spend regular time throughout the week in prayer and worship, learning to hear God's Voice and strengthen yourself in His Word.
By nature of being in Burn, you have the distinct pleasure to be the giver and receiver of discipleship. Proverbs 27:17 says “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens their friend.” We believe that during your nine months in Burn, you will be challenged, pushed, and stretchedbeyond your limits- the amazing thing is that while you are being stretched, you are often doing the stretching in someone else’s life.
You will have regular and consistent group discipleship time in both gender-specific settings, as well as all-Burn discipleship. The purpose of this is to grow in our relationships with one another and to spur one another on after Christ.
Through the course the year in Burn, we will be continually traveling, exploring, and engaging our world. As a student in Burn, you will actively be a part of several ministry trips, retreats, and local missions, including: Detroit, Atlanta, The Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, Cincinnati, Asheville, and more.
As well, we continually engage our city of Cincinnati and the Tri-state. Expect trips and outings to Clifty Falls State Park, Red River Gorge, Downtown Cincinnati, the Creation Museum, rock climbing, and much more.
Caleb King, Burn director
Caleb and Lauren King are grateful to pastor Burn Leadership Academy at Church on Fire Ministries, where they have served in full-time ministry since 2015. They have a heart for embracing Godly community, challenging others to life of faith, and empowering God's people to use their gifts. They love traveling, playing board games, and watching their son Asher grow.
